This campaign will benefit my sister, Brianna, with seeking justice and taking action against the Olympia Police Department. Brianna was peacefully protesting and was on her way to her car to go home. She was wrongfully arrested and while being handcuffed, an officer made a terrifying comment saying "I can put my knee on her. "
This is not something to joke about and the officer needs to be held accountable!
This is what Brianna posted about her arrest:
"So I checked out the protest on 4th Ave last night and ending up getting arrested while I was leaving for "disorderly conduct" mind you I was walking back to my car on the sidewalk. I don't resist arrest at all besides trying to tell them I was leaving, they cuff me but the police officer wanted his cuffs back so they decided to switch them out for another pair. As they have me peacefully standing facing the SUV, DOUBLE CUFFED, Olympia Police Officer K. Hull says 'I can put my knee on her" as a joke. THESE PROTESTS STARTED OVER A KNEE AND SHE KNEW IT AND FELT COMFORTABLE SAYING THAT TO A PERSON OF COLOR. OFFICER K. HULL is a disgrace to the Olympia PD. Besides that, they released me with no shoes, my phone, and car keys. The only things I had on me. I just called the phone number they told me to retrieve my things and they said THEY AREN'T RETURNING ANYTHING DUE TO COVID.
Edit: I received my phone and car keys today but now they’re saying I need to make a claim because they lost my jacket, scarf, face mask, and boots!"
All proceeds will be used for court and lawyers fees. Collecting the funds as soon as possible will allow Brianna to be properly defended. This is her first time in legal trouble and she's not able to afford the costs of a proper defense and doesn't want this incident swept under the rug by the police department.
It is important to come together as a community to stand up to these injustices and stand up for what is right. I hope no other person of color will have to be given the same treatment as my sister, no one should feel unsafe in police custody.
