On September 5th, 2025, in Oregon, 44 poodles living in deplorable conditions were seized by Animal Control. The residence belonged to a long-time show breeder, Lorinda Maxwell, who became overwhelmed with the quantity of dogs. They were taken to the Humane Society of Central Oregon.

Two breed clubs have stepped up from the beginning, offering foster, grooming services, and monetary donations. The shelter has refused to allow the club to foster, despite stating that they are at 200% capacity.

This is not to discredit the work and care provided by the staff and volunteers to dogs that desperately needed help. These dogs did need to be removed from the home. The issue is that some of these dogs belonged to other people.

Among these 44 dogs, 5 dogs were owned by other people who were unaware of the conditions of the home. These dogs were temporarily at Maxwell's home for showing and training.

These owners have their information on microchips, vet records, and registration papers, and the shelter refuses to return the dogs to their rightful owners. At least one of the dogs is severely kennel-stressed, shut down, has refused to eat, and is at risk for euthanasia.

The shelter refuses to release the dogs back to their owners because the owners are a part of the dog show community. Dog shows are severely misunderstood by many. These dogs are loved family pets.

These owners are fighting to get their family members back before it's too late.
