Kristen is a single mama of three children. Formerly a homeschooling parent before her husband left, she got a job as a special Ed assistant teacher and began working on her masters degree in special education. She was making great progress rebuilding her life until a few weeks ago, when her youngest child developed an acute health issue. After five hospital admissions, Kristen has been forced to leave work on FMLA until her daughter is well enough to return to school. This means she has had no income for over two months, and was forced to drain retirement funds to survive.
As she struggles to care for her sick daughter, juggle many doctor appointments and pay for the cascade of medical bills, Kristen’s ex-husband has opportunistically decided to sue her for custody...again. The lawsuits he has brought against her are baseless and only serve to drain her of liquid assets until she is no longer able to afford to live, care for her children, or hire a lawyer. Twice he has attempted this, twice he has lost the cases themselves but still succeeded in hurting her financially.
Kristen has explored all options for assistance through different programs, including legal aide, but they do not support custody cases in the state of Georgia. She spent all of her resources on the last court battle, so she and the children are desperately in need of support now. Without it, she will likely not have legal representation which means little hope of the best outcome for the children. If you can contribute, please do.
Even more importantly, we need people to share her story. Share it far and wide, and specifically to those you think might be the most helpful. If you can personally reach out to some friends or family that are willing to either donate or share with intention, this would give the greatest hope of fundraising an amount that can make a difference.
