My Spiritual Son, Mentee, Friend & Soldier in the Faith Needs Help.
My Dear Friends, Family and Fellow Christian Brothers & Sisters,
What are the funds for? I am seeking to raise funds to hire a criminal defense attorney that will adequately represent James Lee Wind for a court case in Chambers County. He was arrested in Anahuac, TX while traveling with another individual in possession of a controlled substance on October 2017. Without going into the details of the case, we know that 25 years to life is on the table for him if we don't take this to trial.
When? Once we raise the first $2500, we can retain his attorney. After that we will be responsible to pay $1000 monthly until it's paid in full. He goes to back to court on August 1st, wed like to retain the attorney by then.
Why Am I Doing This? It is rare that I would ask others to donate to the defense of an individual in a criminal court case, considering I am the founder of a non-profit organization that is always raising funds for street mission work. In this situation, I have seen first hand the change in James's life, and I feel he's worth fighting for.
He has truly surrendered his life to Christ and his actions prove it. He has submitted himself to 2 days a week (Mon/Thurs) of drug/alcohol recovery classes through AAMA and will graduate in July. He completed 11 sessions (1 x weekly/Tues) of our DTS discipleship training and is an official DTS (Disciple The Streets) brotherhood member. He has been faithfully attending Celebrate Recovery on Fridays at Lakewood Church for several months. He has completed WorkFaith Connection's 8 day intense job training & graduated the program. Other evenings are spent with high accountability coaches that I've intentionally placed in his life, all of which can account for his dedication and sincerity to never return to his past life of crime. He resides faithfully in our transitional home in Brookshire, TX as a house leader and mentor to others. He has shown discipline in finances & employment by laying bricks in the hot sun for minimal wages to pay his monthly expenses.
As of June 13, 2018, our organization, Eyes On Me Inc, hired him to lead a special ministry role that will directly target youth & young adults dealing with drugs/alcohol abuse and gang intervention. We believe in him that much! His employment will allow him to contribute to his legal fees and continue making an honest living at the same time. I attached a video of one instance where James stepped in to mentor a troubled youth who could've faced criminal charges for theft (see video). James is faithfully reaching the darkest areas of Houston with his story and showing an outstanding effort to live as a productive citizen in society. We believe he would be much better serving in ministry with our organization rather than locked up for the rest of his life.
The Bottom Line: In closing, I know that I'm putting my name and reputation on the line for an individual that many in the world have written off as a habitual criminal. Considering I am spiritual father to James, who has never had a father or mother in his life, this is something I have a strong conviction about doing. I've worked with many ex-offenders in my lifetime of ministry and I've never made such a huge "ask" before. James will make a difference in this world, and I'm ready to see that through. Please consider a donation and send up a prayer for favor on his case.
