Legal fees and living.

My name is Cerys, and I never thought I would find myself in a situation like this. Since the 23rd of July, I’ve been held in Turkey on an indefinite travel ban, accused of something that I immediately tried to rectify. I am not allowed to return home to the UK, and every day feels heavier than the last.

I borrowed £3,500 to hire a lawyer from the list given to me by the British Consulate, but after more than six weeks, I’ve had little progress and almost no communication. I have now been told that I may need to find an independent lawyer, which could cost another £4,000, just to move things forward.

On top of this, my accommodation bills are close to £2,000. Someone kind enough has already stepped in to pay another £2,000 so that my son and dogs can keep a roof over their heads back in the UK. Without that help, I don’t know what we would have done.

Adding to the pressure, I’ve had no income at all during the seven weeks I’ve been held here. Every bill, every expense, every step forward has depended entirely on borrowed money and the kindness of others.

It breaks my heart to ask for help, and I feel ashamed to be in this position. But I’ve reached the point where I can’t carry this alone anymore. The stress has taken a huge toll on my health, both mentally and physically, and my family is suffering alongside me. I’ve tried everything I can to resolve this, but I’m exhausted, and my strength is fading.

The three items I was accused of taking have already been paid for. Still, I remain stuck here, waiting, with no clear answers. I will share my full story when I finally make it home, but for now, I just want to survive this and bring closure to my family.

I know times are hard for everyone, and asking for help is the last thing I ever wanted to do. But if you are able to support me in any way, I promise I will do everything I can to repay the kindness and use this experience to help others in the future.
