Legal Expenses for Asylum Seekers
Donation protected
3 wonderful young men, 2 brothers and a cousin, need legal help to win their asylum cases. They have escaped from extortion and violence in their small town in Guatemala. I've known their family for 3 years, and them for the 6 months they've lived here since my community bonded them out of detention. I trust them enough to be their sponsor. They are loving, bright, hopeful people, the kind we need in our country. Most of all, they are kind and generous, despite the unbelievable trauma they've suffered. In the Bay Area where we live, the legal non-profits are working past capacity. We were able to find an excellent private lawyer who is willing to take all three asylum cases at the very reduced rate of $10,000. The chance of winning asylum goes from about 10% to over 70% if one has an attorney, and more if that attorney is excellent and experienced. My friends cannot afford this fee. They are lucky to be living with family so rent is low, but they live 8 people in a small apartment, without complaint. I feel lucky to be able to help them. Please join me in helping my friends have a good chance to win asylum. All money received will be used for their legal expenses.
As a thank you for your generosity, I will send you an enlargement of one of these photos I took of the border wall between Tijuana and San Diego, on the Mexican side. In all of them, you can see through to the U.S. If you donate $100 or more, please choose one photo for each $100. If you donate $500 or more, I will gladly print all six for you.
