“Mathias” was an organizer and activist in El Salvador for 20 years, advocating for liberal reform and organizing voter drives in rural areas. He continued his activism despite being beaten by police, arrested for protesting, and shot at with tear gas and pepper balls at more protests than he can count.

Mathias and his teenage son were forced to flee El Salvador when members of the opposition party attacked him and his son in their home with machetes, almost killing his son and severely wounding Mathias.

His final immigration court hearing is in two days, and he’s been able to obtain a lawyer but his down payment is $5,950 due Wed May 13. This is a rare case that has a high chance of being granted if a lawyer is present.

All donations will go to Mathias’ legal fees to help him and his son stay in the US where they can find safety and healing.
