My friend and neighbor, a Chicago community member who came to the US lawfully as a refugee, has faced many hardships and setbacks thanks to recent policy changes. The immigration process has incurred a lot of legal fees for his family and he’s currently in debt working two jobs and supports two nieces. He did everything the right way, went through the arduous legal process to get asylum before entering the US and is now having the rug pulled out from under him! He shared with me how depressed, stressed and hopeless he feels about the current situation and I offered to create this fundraiser for him and keep his identity anonymous. The money will go towards housing security and paying off various legal fees and other costs for a family of four. I’ve know this guy for over a year now—he is a good and trustworthy person, he’s dealt with so much these past few years coming to the US on foot and facing so many obstacles here, and he just wants to have a normal life!
