On Christmas Eve, while out shopping for Christmas gifts and food for his family, Flaco, his wife, and their daughter were detained by ICE and taken to a detention facility, where they have remained ever since.
As many of you know, our immigration system is complex and often inconsistent, and even individuals who have complied with every requirement can suddenly find themselves pulled into an overwhelming legal process.
Flaco is here legally, with valid work permits, asylum paperwork, and government documentation. He works for my brother, Drennan. He currently has a hearing scheduled before an immigration judge on January 16th.
We have consulted with attorney Claudia R. Villa of Villa Law Firm, who has experience with cases like his and believes he has a strong chance of being released on bond — but only if he has immediate legal representation and a prepared case.
To retain counsel and attempt to expedite his hearing, we urgently need to raise $3,000. In addition, his bond — if granted — is expected to be a minimum of $2,500 and possibly up to $10,000. These costs are separate from the additional legal support his wife and daughter will require for their more complicated case.
We were able to speak with Flaco directly this past week, and the situation inside the detention center is extremely difficult. He described overcrowded rooms with up to 90 people, poor conditions, limited food, and shared open facilities. We have been able to add money to his commissary so he can buy basic necessities and make phone calls — but this is only a temporary lifeline.
Flaco is a hard-working, kind, skilled carpenter and drywaller who has worked in many homes over the past two years. He pays rent, pays taxes, has a valid Colorado driver’s license, holds a full-time job, and has always supported his family and community. Above all, he is a good man who deserves fairness, dignity, and a chance to return to his life while he continues his case through the legal process.
We are humbly asking for any level of support you are able to provide. There is no minimum contribution — every dollar truly helps. Our family, friends, and team are contributing as much as we can, and we are also working to recover personal funds that were taken from him at the time of detention.
Funds raised will go directly toward legal fees, bond, and immediate needs while he is in custody.
If you have questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support in helping us bring our friend home and giving him the chance to fight for his freedom and reunite with his family.
