The above photo is one of me and my children, one year before their father left to live with his mistress and her son.  To this day,  Ricardo Carlos Caballero  still owes over $100,000 in child support arrearages. I've been fighting the courts for over 30 years with no success, as my ex-husband is a disbarred attorney and classic con, who has used his knowledge of the law to avoid his responsibility. He was  convicted of Criminal Non-Support in 1993, a charge used only for the most egregious child support offenders.  He cried on the stand during the sentencing phase and begged the jurors to give him probation.  The terms of the probation were that he pay child support , and he still got away with not paying  and still no consequences, as always.   

This is not about greed.  This is a matter of justice.   Single mothers like me who keep up the fight are treated by both exes and the legal system alike, as greedy and vindictive and rarely see justice.  In my case, especially, he knows most of the judges or knows people who can help him influence judges.  I've never even had a fighting chance.  No justice.  This level of corruption, cronyism and con-artistry is baffling and detestable.

Our oldest son was born with a rare neurological disorder called Tuberous Sclerosis.  This disease causes tumors to spontaneously develop  on major organs.  He has already lost a kidney due to a massive tumor and currently has a brain tumor and another tumor on his left lung.  In 1992 a hearing was held and Caballero  was court ordered to pay Medical Support for him as well as insurance,  indefinitely,  as long as he lived, given that he has special needs and such delicate health, but still, nothing.....

I live in Texas and my ex-husband lives in New Mexico, where he is a an elected official, a high-profile politician who enjoys a very public life along with his current wife,  State Representative Patricia Roybal Caballero.  He serves on the New Mexico State Public Education Commission and is always in attendance when the House is in session, accompanying his wife. Ordinarily citizens are not allowed on the floor, but on the live feed from a local tv station, he can be seen walking around, chumming it up with other legislators.

There  have been hearings after hearings that have  had to be continued because according to the AG's office, they've been unable to serve him.  He's given dozens of fake addresses to authorities for over 30 years and this is one reason I can't get him to court. I don't know how or when I can get him in court, my attorney has some ideas, but he won't do anything until he's paid in full .
 Although he has made it impossible to be served with subpoenas and warrants, he is still able to maintain a very public life --- he was even a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and was seen on national television!  He's  active in many political organizations and holds office in several.  He even serves on the New Mexico State Board of Education as Commissioner, ironically making decisions affecting all children in New Mexico!

He is so well known and popular in New Mexico that the New Mexico Attorney General's office, once grateful for knowledge of this case, as well as evidence from other investigators regarding extensive corruption, is now on his side! They have  written a document releasing him of any liens  that would bring about a small semblance of justice. Defying ethics and reason, yet completely in keeping with his history,  now government agencies have come to his rescue. The State of New Mexico has also filed a motion with the  Court to set aside  all child support orders as Void!  For well over thirty years I have been dedicated to pursuing justice denied to us and I will never stop despite repeated failures and disappointments every time he is granted special favors from political friends, judges and contacts.  I need to ensure that my oldest son has the ongoing medical care he needs.  I can't continue doing this alone anymore.  I was finally able to retain a lawyer but being that this case is so high profile and complicated,  it's becoming impossible to keep paying him.

Ricardo Carlos Caballero has the power, the knowledge and the dirty politicians on his side.  This needs to be stopped now.   
Recently, I received a call from the Attorney General's office in New Mexico with a warning... I was told to leave things alone. I was spoken down to, wasn't allowed to ask any questions, and was hung up on.  The case was sealed at one point, which is never done unless there is a minor involved, to protect his/her identity.    Now, it is apparently and suspiciously "unsealed".  This level of corruption and favoritism cannot be left unchecked.  It's unacceptable!
  I am living on a tight budget and have to  pay for much of my son's expensive medications,  dr's visits, procedures, etc., out of pocket.  He should be held accountable for backpayment of child support owed, medical support owed, that has been court ordered by dozens of judges spanning three decades,  but never enforced.

. My adult children need justice once and for all,  and my oldest son requires very costly medical attention. Please help us to send a message to those in power that they are not above the law, as too many appear to believe.  Your participation in this fight is more than appreciated!
