The Barker Hall Condominium at 2385 Barker Avenue in the Bronx, NY, is facing a critical governance issue. Despite our bylaws requiring annual meetings each April and regular board elections, the current management has announced a meeting for January 2025, effectively skipping the required 2024 annual meeting. Adding to this concern, they've limited the upcoming election to only three board positions, when our bylaws clearly mandate that all seven positions should be open for election, as current board members have exceeded their two-year terms or were appointed to fill vacancies.
After multiple attempts to resolve these issues through direct communication, including a letter signed by 65 owners, a group of concerned owners has decided to secure legal representation. To protect our rights as owners and ensure proper governance of our building, we are raising $5,000 for the initial legal retainer. This fund will be managed transparently, with regular progress reports to all contributors, and any unused portion will be refunded proportionally. The legal engagement is set to conclude by January 31, 2025, with no additional fees beyond the initial retainer unless agreed upon by all contributors.
