Hi my name is Legacy McCormack and I am fundraising to afford my freshman year at Howard University! Out of the record breaking number of applicants this year, (37,000), I am honored to be one of the 2,500 students to be admitted to THEE illustrious HU! As many of you may know, this is no small accomplishment since Howard is one of the top HBCU’s in the country. Being able to attend Howard is very important to me because I will be able to experience so much Black excellence around me. I will also be adding to the long legacy of even more Black excellence before me. This fall, I will be majoring in Business Management with a minor in pre-law. I chose these two as my major and minor because in the future I plan to become a criminal defense lawyer. This has been a passion of mine because according to The Innocence Project, Black American men are seven times more likely to be wrongly convicted of crimes than white American men. This is clearly a major issue in our community, and one way to help stop this is to have more people who are willing to fight for Black and Brown people in our country’s legal system. I chose business Management as my major because I would love to be able to open my own law firm, and hire Black and Brown attorneys that have the same goals and passions as I do. The total cost of attendance at Howard is about $59,000, which is a really big number to come up with. I am wanting to raise $14,000 by this August so I will be able to graduate from HU with little to no college debt. Through scholarships and working hard this summer I plan to pay for the rest of my fees, housing, and, books! Anything you are able to give will be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance!
