Do you want to be a part of making a difference in the lives of youth and families? Our non-profit, Legacy of Legends CDC, is raising money to renovate a community resource hub in a disadvantage community that will serve as a safe haven to youth and families.
The city of Memphis has a poverty rate of 26.9%. Child poverty is 44.7% and black children is 48.9%. Memphis has reverted to being the poorest MSA with a population of over a million people. (UofM report) Shelby County Schools has over 40K students living in households that has $10K or less annual income. 1 in 4 Tennessean has 4 or more adverse childhood experiences. Legacy of Legends CDC is committed to mitigate Adverse Childhood Experiences through leadership, entrepreneurship, and performing arts while providing a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for community stakeholders. Our focus is to Build Resilient Communities. We offer training to individuals, parents, families, organizations, schools, and businesses to help guide leading with “It is not what's wrong with you, it's what happened to you.” Within this community resource hub will include Children Ballet in our Performing Arts Center, Basketball Leagues in our Gymnasium, and many community partners to provide mentoring, life skills, ACEs awareness, etc...
After 4 years of serving our community, we purchased a 60,000 square foot building, now being developed into the Legacy Impact Community Resource Center (LICRC). This is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a hub for community resources and services in Shelby County. The facility houses several essential components, including the
Reverend James E. Smith Freedom Fighters Gallery, which showcases the contributions of local civil rights activists.
The Keiya Graves-Garrett Training Academy provides career training and opportunities for residents.
The Legacy Impact Performing Arts Center provides a stage for local artists and performers including the youth in our Ballet and Modern Dance program.
The Legacy Business Incubator supports local entrepreneurs and businesses with physical office suites and virtual office spaces, as well as the Community Resilience Store which serves as a vital shopping resource for a community without a neighborhood Walmart.
Lastly, the Legacy Impact Athletic Center will offer a variety of sports facilities, including a skating rink, AAU court, and volleyball court including, the 4D arcade room will make for a fun and interactive environment for visitors, while the fitness center will help residents maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Our Community Needs You. God Bless You!
