Leesha's Top Surgery Recovery Fund

Life updates!!! I’m starting a new chapter of my life in 2 BIG ways! First, I will be having top surgery on 9/3/19. I have been thinking about this surgery for years and in many ways never thought it could be a reality, but as of yesterday I officially have a surgery date! AND once I have recovered from surgery I will be relocating to Philadelphia--a huge step for this born-n-raised Bay Area babe.
For those of you who don’t know me my name is Leesha and I’m a 26-year-old trans-masc queerdo. I’m a dance artist and instructor who has spent the past four years as a freelance artist in San Francisco. I have been privileged to get so much work as an openly trans dancer but I have also struggled working in a field that is so deeply gendered. As a dancer, showing up to work means being present in my body and as a trans person that can be difficult on many levels. I am fortunate enough to have access to HRT and since starting T last May I have become much more comfortable and confident in my body but I still experience a lot of dysphoria about my chest.
I am so excited about these next steps and over the next three weeks I will be teaching lots of dance classes to keep my body active in preparation for surgery and to make a little extra cash but I will need some additional support. In most jobs, I could be back at work in just a few weeks, but since I rely on my body for income (and teach a super high-impact dance fitness class), I will need to take two months off of work while I recover. All funds raised here will help cover my medical and living expenses while I’m not able to work (supplemented by a bit of short-term disability support).
EXPENSES
$1000 - Medical Expenses
$200 - Medical/Recovery Supplies
$2560 = $320 weekly living expenses* x 8 weeks
$1400 = $100/day for in-home caregiver x 14 days
$150 = Gofundme fees
TOTAL= $5310
Xoxo,
