Lee's ultramarathon home from Rhyl to Leek.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. At 17, I lost my mother to a heart attack. She was 39 years of age. It was a terrible event and yet despite knowing risk factors for poor heart health and working in a place where I see the outcomes of heart attacks almost every week and the strain that takes on the individual and their families, I've still lived my life overweight and unfit. I have navigated my early 30s largely unhealthy and having moments of motivation and weight loss before it fades and the weight just comes straight back.
However, as I have hit 35, with a young son and a career ahead of me, I have decided that I do not have to accept my future of continued obesity and lack of exercise and wondering if my heart holds any surprises for me in the future. Instead, I am going to put myself and my heart in the best condition of their lives and raise money to help others do the same by raising money for British Heart Foundation who help people with their cardiovascular health through information, care, and pioneering research.
On June 19th 2024, I will be running over 100km from my home town of Rhyl, to where I live now in Leek in 24 hours; a distance of over 2.5 marathons and a total ascent of over 500m. It will be by far my biggest fundraising challenge to date but good things are not easy and the challenge is as much about me as it is raising money for charity.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my story and thank you for your donation.
