Lee-On-Solent Live Bait Channel Swim!!
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
Greg and Jodie are swimming the English Channel as a two-person relay this August. The English Channel is the body of water separating England and France. Although it is officially 21 miles, we can expect to swim much further because of the tides - it is the world's most historically significant and iconic marathon swim. We will be swimming for approximately seven hours each in cold water, with wind and waves too, as well as a likely encounter with some jellyfish! If battling these conditions wasn't enough, we will also be swimming across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world!
We have chosen the following two worthwhile charities to fundraise for:
Sophie's Legacy
This charity works to spread awareness about childhood cancer to help parents look out for signs and symptoms. Sophie sadly died aged ten from cancer after a gruelling year-long battle. As well as raising awareness for this extremely worthwhile cause, they fund snack and toiletry boxes in Portsmouth and Southampton, as well as funding transport and emergency boxes for when parents arrive in hospital.
Samaritans
Every ten seconds, Samaritans respond to a call for help. They are there any time of day or night to listen and help those struggling to cope. They are not only there for moments of crisis but to take action to prevent the crisis. Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide. That’s why they work tirelessly to reach more people and make suicide prevention a priority.
We will be splitting any donations between these two great charities. Any donations are greatly appreciated as we take on this gruelling challenge. Thank you for taking the time to read our page - and wish us luck!!!
