On Sunday, January 19th, a valued member of our culinary team was involved in a horrific car accident. Leena D’Silva and her husband, Francis were rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital after a tragic head-on collision.
Francis suffered a broken rib and was discharged after two weeks of treatment. His recovery will continue at home where he has been advised to remain off work for three months.
Unfortunately, Leena sustained more severe injuries in the accident. She has endured several surgeries on her spine, abdomen and foot and continues to remain in a critical care ward, but in stable condition. At this time, her recovery period is unknown given her acute injuries and extensive rehabilitation ahead.
Leena has been a part of the kitchen team at MGCC for nearly 20 years. Her generosity and kindness is inspiring and her dedication to her family and work is truly incredible. We are all heartbroken by this situation and wish her a smooth and speedy recovery.
With this in mind, we would like to support Leena and her family by alleviating some of the financial burden and stress so that she can focus on healing. While we are confident that she will overcome this hardship, her income will be drastically impacted.
I, on behalf of all employees at the Club are committed to raising $25,000 to assist Leena, Francis and their three children with financial expenses during this difficult time. All funds received will be directed to Leena’s personal bank account for immediate use.
