Leeds to Argentina by bike 4 grassroots football
Short Story
Some say I'm a bit mad, lockdown is/was hard work, got a bit bored, wanted to keep fit and lose a bit of weight, love Leeds United, Marcelo Bielsa and my Leeds Juniors football Club.
So I decided to cycle the distance of 6950 miles using my indoor bike. This is the distance from Pudsey, Leeds to Rosario, Argentina. As this is the birth place of Marcelo Bielsa, to hopefully raise a load of money for my football club.
It's bloody hard work, so let your generosity keep me going.
Long Story
My name is Kirk Stevens and I've set myself a personal challenge to cycle 6950 miles, the distance of Leeds to Rosario, Argentina {as the crow flies) using my indoor bike trainer.
As we've been in lock down, I needed to do something to challenge myself (as if home schooling wasn't enough) and get a bit healthier. Most importantly though, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to raise some funds for my local football club.
Due to the affects of COVID, families have struggled in many different ways. People have lost loved ones, lost their jobs or are struggling for income and I want to ensure that with your generosity, we can continue to provide the fun and health benefits that football brings for those involved.
The money raised will ensure everyone who wants to play can play, irrespective of their financial situation. Each player will be provided with the right kit without having to depend on the struggling businesses within the community for sponsorship and new equipment to ensure the children get the best out of their learning and enjoyment through football.
As I'm a big Leeds United fan and of course a huge admirer of Marcelo Bielsa, I chose this distance out of respect for him, as Rosario is the place of his birth. If he can get Leeds into the premiership, I can do this.
I started this on the 4th January, with the idea to complete the distance within the year. This meant I had to cycle 134 miles per week to achieve the target, by the end of the year. I'm pleased to say that as of today 14th March, I've already managed to cycle 2039 miles. This means I am predicting to finish in or around the 1st week in August, the sooner the better.
This has been a huge commitment and I am now cycling twice a day for 5 days a week, so whether you support Leeds United, grassroots football, or you admire Marcelo Bielsa as much as I do. Even for those who just admire me for my effort and commitment and the fact I've stopped drinking (yes, I miss a pint or 12), your support is hugely appreciated and will make people's lives that bit better.
