On 16th August 2026, I’ll be taking on an Ironman in Leeds. The biggest physical and mental challenge I have ever faced. This day is especially significant, as it falls on my grandma’s birthday.
An Ironman is one of the toughest one-day endurance events in the world, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon run, completed back-to-back with no breaks.
She was the most incredible person I have ever known. Nothing was ever too much for her. No matter what she was going through, she always had the biggest smile on her face and remained positive, strong, and kind. She had a way of making everyone around her feel cared for and loved.
For many years, she devoted herself to caring for my grandad after he became ill following multiple strokes. She never complained, never put herself first, and always made sure everyone else was okay before thinking of herself. Her selflessness and strength were truly inspiring.
Growing up, she was always so proud of me and my brother — proud of what we did and who we were becoming. She supported us endlessly, encouraged us to chase our dreams, and never stopped believing in us. At the same time, she never failed to call us crazy… and I know she would be shaking her head and smiling at the thought of me taking on an Ironman now.
I’m raising money for Stroke UK and Dementia UK in her memory to honour her life, her strength, and the love she gave so freely to others. This challenge is my way of remembering her and turning something incredibly difficult into something positive.
Any donation, no matter how small, will help support people and families affected by stroke and dementia. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support — it truly means more than words can say.
