Hi, my name is Shayla and I'm fundraising for a funeral and other costs that may arise for the family of Leeann Paulin-Esposto (55). In 2021, Leeann was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver not due to alcohol consumption, but a medical condition. Her health slowly began to decline. Leeann began receiving treatment in an attempt to heal her liver without the need for a transplant. It seemed that progress was being made until 2023 when Leeann developed a stomach hernia. The hernia developed over time and was not of a concern. In June 2025, Leeann was told that despite treatment, she would need a liver transplant from a live donor for best results. Her family being supportive all attempted to match with her but it was found out that Leeann had a rare blood type and it would be difficult to find a match. In December 2025 the hernia ruptured and caused ammonia to enter Leeann's blood. The medical team was able to repair the hernia and gave Leeann a blood transfusion. This solution did not last long as the mesh used to repair the hernia caused an infection. Leeann was at risk of not making it out of surgery to repair the hernia due to how sickly she had become. Leeann was placed on life support to aid in her recovery. When doctors had felt that Leeann could be in less pain they removed her off life support. She did well and was able to go back home in March 2026 to allow her to spend time with family in the comfort of her home, while she continued to fight off her infection with a PSW supporting the home. Leeann was admitted back into the hospital at the end of March 2026. Her liver had become sicker, and the doctors again attempted to save her life with dialysis. Lina her daughter, last updated that she was heading to the hospital as the dialysis did not work and the doctors could not intervene more.
Leeann and her family are some of the most warm, kind-hearted and selfless people. Leeann thrived in caring for others in all aspects of her life. In this time their family is in need of support to help give Leeann the memorial she deserves, and to support her family with the hardship of losing their mom and wife. Thank you, I will update when more information is given to Leeann's condition.
