Hello, I’m one of Lee’s many cousins from his Dads side (Harris) , I grew up with Lee when he lived in Portsmouth with his Dad and our Nan.
We’ve so many childhood memories of Lee and his dream to become a DJ. He’d blare his music out of the top bedroom window of our Nans house for the whole street to hear ! Every weekend we’d go on the bus into Portsmouth town centre and we’d go straight to HMV music store where Lee would buy the latest release of whatever the song was back then 30 years ago. One that sticks in my mind is Whigfield ‘saturday night’ and The Original ‘I Luv U Baby’ , he’d buy it on tape for 99p and get home and do his thing by mixing it with whatever else and coming up with this amazing mix of songs, we’d think he was the bee’s knee’s !
He took things further afield and started DJing for a local dance school in Cosham called Stepz where he made loads of friends with the dancers & their parents.
He’s always been so very well liked and loved by many , was never a lairy person (but he did get a bit of a big head because he knew he was bloody good at what he did !!!) , to us he was just Lee , Billy’s son Lee , Julie’s brother Lee , he was an uncle , a nephew , a cousin and a friend to so many !
I remember going to The Paradise club as a youngster with my cousin Charlene and our friends, we walked into The Decadance room and we felt famous , guess who was on stage banging out his tunes as an actual DJ ?!! Lee Harris !!! We was so proud and excited , we told everyone “that’s our cousin up there !!”
but even at this point he was still just our cousin , although we knew how good he was we never imagined that Lee would eventually be known by many people across the whole world for his talent of music , we never thought that his love of house music would attract top DJs from across the globe !!
We all grew up and took our own paths in life , Lee followed his dreams and he made it as a worldwide DJ !!
He made us so proud !! But his DJing life took over , he was here there and everywhere and we kind of lost our cousin Lee to the world of music , but he was doing what he loved doing and who were we to stop him ?!
He moved up to London and was always so busy in the music industry , he often came back to Portsmouth to visit his Dad and his sister Julie but us cousins didn’t really see much of him, we all followed him on Facebook and we’d ‘like’ his posts and we’d have the odd chat in the comments section but we respected that he had made it in life , we could see he was enjoying life and knew he was doing okay from his Facebook posts , or at least we thought he was doing okay
This morning however we realised something wasn’t right when we saw Lee’s posts and the comments of everyone searching for him , trying to call him , sending him texts etc .. this wasn’t like Lee , and our gut feeling was telling us this doesn’t feel right.
Lee knew sooo many people that for nobody to manage to get hold of him or for him not to reply to peoples messages we knew this was serious !
Lee was sadly found in his flat in London today (11/08/25) where he’d taken his final breath sleeping peacefully in his bed.
Lee’s Dad got the tragic call that we’d all been dreading, Lee had passed away
His sister Julie also had to take the call and hear of her baby Brother passing away.
45 years old , a worldwide DJ , known by thousands and thousands of people for his incredible talent
Why ? We don’t know. He was loved, and he knew that , he knew how much his devoted Dad loved him , he knew his sister Julie had always stuck by him and loved him, his nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins, we all loved him !! And the thousands of friends Lee had made along this journey , he knew they loved him !
But sometimes love isn’t enough is it
As a family moving forward we now need to think of the expenses of having Lee’s body brought back down to Portsmouth where he was born, where his dreams first started, where his family are.
We also want to give Lee the best send off , and of course this has to be ‘Lee style’ so god help the older generation of our family that don’t know house music ♀️
Lee’s Dad , Billy , is a pensioner living alone and just doing what we’re all doing , just getting by, obviously never thinking that he’d have to plan his Sons funeral , something no parent should ever have to deal with.
Lee was Billy’s only child, he brought Lee up alone ,along with the help of our late Nan.
Lee shared his Mum with his older sister Julie, Julie being older had her own children, she had her own family, but her and Lee have always stayed in touch. Their Mum passed away many years ago.
We’d like to ask you to please donate anything you can to help Lee’s Dad and his Sister with the expenses to get Lee back to Portsmouth where we can give him the send off that he well and truly deserves. If you cannot donate we totally understand , but even if you could please share this so it reaches everyone that knew Lee , near and far.
Obviously this is still a shock to us all and there have not yet been any funeral arrangements made , it’s not even something that has been spoken about yet. But we’re hoping with your help we can get Lee back to Portsmouth with us so his Dad and his Sister can then start to arrange things.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Thank you for loving Lee like we did, and still do.
Each and every one of you that knew Lee loved him , he really was a pure person with a heart of gold that just wanted to show the world his music skills , and he sure did that !!
Lee believed he could and he did !
R.I.P Lee Harris (Larris)
You will be forever loved and missed by all who knew you. Fly high up there with your loved ones, we can only hope you’re now where you wanted to be , resting in paradise ❤️
