LEE Educational Foundation
Hi. My name is Michele Brunner and this is my fiance' Messiah Justin.
In September 2019 we took part in a project called Step It Up Naija. Through this project we were able to provide writing supplies, books, and juice boxes and crackers for the children in the Mpape School near Abuja, Nigeria. Being in the presence of these sweet children touched my heart in a profound way. Many of them would not have had a lunch that day had it not been for the generous donations. We wanted to do so much more!!
This year we have teamed up with family to create the Lee Educational Foundation in Nigeria. This foundation was founded in honor of a family member who has dedicated her life to the advancement of youth in Nigeria. Our intent this year is to provide school writing supplies, backpacks, uniforms, and a modest Christmas meal to the underprivileged children and their families in Bare, Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria.
The work has begun but we need your help!
We are happy to report that Brother Emmanuel has shipped the collected backpacks and writing supplies obtained from the USA and they have arrived safely and fully intact in Yola, Nigeria. We have also received word from Messiah's NMS colleague that the first round of backpacks created by the TOLU Foundation is complete. The TOLU Foundation teaches young women in Kaduna, Nigeria how to sew. Each round of 50 backpacks (~$500 USD) or uniforms, enables these women to learn the trade, pays them for their time, and provides them with a certificate of completion, enabling them to help provide for their family's future.
So far we have been able to sponsor the creation of 100 backpacks through our own family funds. However, this is far short of what we would like to accomplish. With your help we as a team, will be able to provide for children as well as enable disadvantaged women of Nigeria to learn a trade to help support their families.
Our goal is to raise a minimum of $2,500 USD to assist with more backpacks, writing supplies to be purchased in Nigeria, and to provide the Christmas celebration.
The Christmas celebration is scheduled to occur Monday, December 27th and the catering is anticipated to cost approximately $1,000 USD. This is to provide beverages and a modest meal for the underprivileged children and families of the 5 schools located in the Bare, Numan Local Government Area.
More updates to come soon.
Thank you for your generous support,
Michele
