The Family and Friends of Lee Otis Carter are reaching out to request financial assistance in getting our loved one back on his feet. Lee Otis is a Loving Husband, Father of 6, Grandfather of 4, the only living child of Bonnie Russell-King, relative and friend to so many of us. He is now fighting for his life and needs financial help. The fact that Lee Otis is alive is a Miracle!!! Even when doctors were ready to give up, God kept him with us.
We pray that we can reach our goal so that Lee can get the help needed to get him back on his feet. Any amount helps.
Here's Lee's Story written by his wife, Victoria. As you can see, its filled with love and tragic circumstances. #FightForLee
Lee and I met in the 3rd grade and have been in together every since. That’s 31 years and counting. We have 6 beautiful kids and 4 grandkids. He was an employee for the City of Austin for 10 years then Travis County for 6 years. In 2010 Lee suffered from congestive heart failure at the age of 31. He still continued to provide for his family after his recovery so I could stay home since we have a special needs child and I needed to be available at all times. Lee is a strong loving family man who would do anything for his family and friends. On Halloween Lee went into cardiac arrest while on the porch bbq'n hot dogs for our kids. They witnessed him pass out and came to get me from our neighbors house. I tried to wake him but knew immediately something was wrong so I called 911 and started CPR. I followed instructions until I was so scared and weak my neighbor took over. My family held me back while I begged him to wake up! We need him and our family doesn’t work without him. An officer arrived and took over CPR until the EMS arrived. It took 4 of them to revive him, then they star flighted him to the closet trauma hospital since we live in the country. It took me an hour to get there and another 3 hours before I could go in to see him. I told him to fight and that I loved him. He had a tube in his throat but still lipped to me he loves me too. He went to sleep after. He was taken to the ICU unit and I was sent home due to covid only to return the next day during visitation hours. He was in a coma and on life support. After 4 days in ICU and a lot of test, Doctors said that I should take him off of life support because he had brain damage and would never be able to do anything but maybe blink his eyes if he woke up. I fought with myself. I never want to see him suffer but kept hearing his voice telling me I was his back bone and to never give up on him so..... I refused to take him off of life support and went to the hospital everyday waiting for when he would wake up. On November 9th he opened his eyes and smiled at me and we have been fighting every since. He breathes with the help of a bi-pap machine but is breathing on his own. On November 17, I had to make a choice to move him to a unit where he could peacefully pass or get him a Tracheotomy and feeding tube. He had life in him, I seen his fight so I went with the Trach and feeding tube. He has battled pneumonia 3x among other infections and he is now a level down from ICU and is trying to get out of the bed, he now moves his lips, trying to communicate to me and I go to see him everyday. An hour drive there and an hour back. He responds to me the most. At one time the doctors, nurses and even some family thought I was delusional and seeing things because he would only do it with me. He is now showing them who he is a fighter and they are ready to move him to a rehabilitation center but the only problem we don’t have insurance. While I have filed for everything under the sun it all takes time and he needs treatment and therapy immediately. Me and his kids and family wanted to start this go fund me Lee account so we can get him there. He will one day be telling his story and back to himself but it has to start now. He needs the physical and occupational therapy as soon as possible for him to live a normal life again. He shows so much improvement the doctors can’t believe this is the same man. They said he would have a 5-10% chance to be doing what he is doing and that’s why we are asking for help. So I can get my other half back and my children and grandchildren as well as the rest of his family can have him back. I knew Lee would not quit on me if the shoe was on the other foot so that’s why I push so hard for him. Everyone misses him and his kids are lost without plus witnessing it and our son with Autism is lost and confused as to why there were men at the house. I ask to please donate anything you can so we can have our family back. If you can’t donate please pray for him and our family I believe his strength and Gods will got him this far and we can’t stop now! Thank you in advance for hearing my story and helping in anyway it maybe. #FightForLee
