I sit here in the place that raised me and am asking for the universe to have my back with full vulnerability that I wish I didn’t have to: but when you watch your heroes struggle, wouldn’t you do the same?
For over five decades, my parents, Parker Lee Fields and Kim Ellen Weidner-Fields, have been a living example of unconditional love and generosity. They have spent their lives giving—offering shelter, support, and kindness to anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. Now, as my father faces a diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer that has spread to his liver, I am reaching out to our community for help.
My Father, My hero, Parker Lee was born on October 2, 1954, and from his earliest days, he was raised his Mother Sweet Phyllis who shaped him into the incredible man he is today. He and my mother, Kim, met young and have been together for 50 years. He saw her one night at a bar way back when and had to go back to Colorado, but when he saw her he knew that she held the rest of his life in her heart, but she didn’t know it yet. He came back from Colorado and saw her again and picked her up for their first date that is the same the place that raised me and where I sit to write this. They have spent 50 years building a legacy of love and compassion in the same home that has sheltered generations of our family.
Their generosity knows no bounds. Even when they had little, they gave more. They have opened their doors to children who needed a safe place and have been a source of hope and comfort to countless others. Their lives have not been easy, but through every hardship, they have stood by each other, stronger together and ready the weather whatever whatever storm comes their way. The amount of shelter they have given is insurmountable.
A Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis comes with overwhelming emotional and financial challenges. The five-year survival rate for this stage is just 3%, and treatment options—while offering hope and precious time—are costly and relentless. Chemotherapy, clinical trials, and ongoing care are critical, but they come with mounting bills that no family should face alone. I am sitting here watching g them go through the bills and navigate the next step. My hope for them was that they would get the chance to live out their best days with the money they have worked so hard for and now they are negotiating that money for the BIG C.
My parents deserve to spend these moments together focused on making memories, not worrying about finances. They have already given so much to others; now I am asking for help to give back to them.
If you find a place to help them, I will be using this money to help cover
medical expenses, treatment, and travel for clinical trials
Help with household bills so my parents can focus on each other and
allow them to create meaningful experiences and fulfill some of their dreams together
If my sweet parents have ever touched your life, or if their story moves you, please consider donating. Every contribution—no matter the size—makes a difference. If you cannot give financially, sharing this fundraiser or sending words of encouragement means the world to us.
I promise to honor every act of kindness by continuing my parents’ legacy of giving. Their footprints have shaped so many lives, and with your help, we can show them that love and generosity always come full circle.
Just so the world knows my Mom and Dad will be eating me up like a snack when they see this because they don’t believe they deserve help as there are so many suffering in this life right now, but beyond the financial help, I hope this shows them that the footprints they have left in life mean something so much more than they know.
Thank you for helping us ease their burden and for being part of our journey.
With deepest gratitude,
Brooke Nichelle Fields
