“Lease of Love” is an original story written and directed by emerging artist Hannah Clare (graduate of Excelsia College). Her team are busy preparing this darling script for the stage in January 2026 - but staging theatre is not cheap or easy. It takes a lot of hours and resources to bring a good story to life, and give the audience a fully immersive experience.

“Lease of Love” is a heartfelt, funny exploration of modern romance in Australia, highlighting the complexities of love, friendship and shared living between young people in present-day Sydney.

Synopsis: In a cozy Northbridge apartment, best friends Ria and Jazz find themselves facing a sudden rent increase. To afford the new lease, they agree to bring in two housemates Matt and Justin.

The show challenges the idea that romance has faded over time. It shows us how instead, love has adapted, becoming more honest and more tender in today’s culture. It shines a light on Australia’s ongoing rental crisis - the pressure and unpredictability of shared living, and how these external forces shape the way we form and maintain relationships. This story reflects the vulnerability needed for humanity to truly co-exist — in love, in friendship, and in the same small apartment.
