Help Lear’s long recovery after car accident

Please help Lear, his dad Jarrad Shurill, mom Noe Shurill and sister Skye on Lear’s long medical journey. Funds will help the family with expenses while Lear is in the ICU and the transition to bringing him home with life altering equipment needs and 24 hour care. See his story below.

10 year old Lear was riding to school on September 29th, 2025, when they were involved in a very bad car accident.

Thankfully, a San Francisco Fire Department ambulance happened to be in the same area and got there immediately. They called in necessary reinforcements to get Lear and the other 2 passengers out of the car. Lear was unconscious and had a collapsed lung. The medics (M560) started life-saving measures right away, and the crew got him to the SFGH quickly. He sustained many injuries, including a neck fracture, traumatic spinal cord injuries, a traumatic brain injury, rib fractures, grade 3 liver lacerations, and abdominal wall lesions. Since the accident, Lear has had 3 major surgeries to repair many of the injuries he sustained, with more procedures to follow. Lear miraculously was able to wake up the second night after the accident. He is still on a respirator, so he can't talk, but he is able to communicate through blinking. The best part is he is able to understand and still has his playful personality. As of right now, Lear is not able to feel anything below the neck. He has a very long road to recovery, and doctors are not sure what that recovery will fully look like. Lear has been in the Pediatric ICU since the day of the accident and will be here until all major repairs are complete. After that Lear will have to start the next steps of rehabilitation. That part of the journey will be tricky as doctors continue to gauge what bodily functions Lear has regained.

This will be a long journey and Lear will need 24 hour round the clock care. The family is so thankful for any help possible.
