Leaphart Family Flood Relief Fund
Donation protected
There is so much devastation due to the recent flood, but I can speak first hand about the loss experienced by my dear friends, The Leaphart's. Their home on Burwell Lane is destroyed, along with all of their furnishings. Many hands have assisted them this week, but they still face the daunting task of rebuilding their life and home. They are much more comfortable offering help to others than asking for it themselves, so I am asking for them.
This is their story in their own words.....As I sit here tonight I am truly grateful! This morning my family and I left our house wearing life jackets and in a canoe. Our entire house was in over four feet of water and the furniture in our house was literally floating! We watched our tool shed (8'x12') float downstream. It was at that point that I knew we had to leave immediately!! We were able to take our dog and three of our chickens (who were wet and in shock). Our sweet fourth chicken, Jasmine, lost her life before we could get to her. Our other three chickens were in shock, cold, and close to death, but we were able to get to them. Bailey and I wrapped dry towels around them and tried to comfort them as best we could. We put them in a plastic container and got in a canoe with our dog, the clothes on our back, and a dry bag with phones and iPads (this was not easy)!!!! Richard was amazing and unrelenting though this entire ordeal!! We were able to paddle to dry land, where people were waiting to help us. One lady went in her house and got dry towels for our chickens. She stayed with us and helped us, even as the waters were nearing her house. She petted one of our chickens (Willow) until she came back to life. I can't tell you the gratitude I feel for everyone who has reached out to us today!! Today has been unbelievable and overwhelming. Thank you to everyone!! We are beyond grateful!!
Thank you to everyone for your donation, or for just keeping this family in your thoughts. We will use the donations to help them with temporary housing and other expenses associated with the loss of their home.
