Leonard Thompson Memorial

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Leonard Thompson passed away February 21, 2019. But it was just a few weeks ago, Leonard was talking about 2 Timothy 4:7 in which Paul says, “I’ve fought a good fight, I’ve finished the race.” Leonard wasn’t anticipating the end of his race when he said, “I want to fight a good fight, I want to win the race and just want to hear ‘well done’ when that time comes.”  Leonard did fight a good fight and ran his race but unfortunately for his wife, children and friends he lost the fight physically on this earth. We know he heard “well done.”

After 14 years of remission from a very rare blood cancer, Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, there was a recurrence of the cancer.  Leonard began chemo with the resolve to again get the cancer into remission, but with a compromised immune system Leonard could not fight the sudden onset of an pneumonia and he passed away suddenly.


Barbara and Leonard have tirelessly volunteered hundreds of hours to Relationship Lifeline both in time and hospitality. The banquet table had an abundance of goodies and meals every month that Barbara prepared for the volunteers.  Leonard never felt he gave much but when I noticed he wasn’t in the back room hovering over Barbara I was disturbed. See we counted on Leonard during sessions to be sitting in the back corner facing the wall to pray for each broken heart... those will be hard shoes to fill.


This Go Fund Me account, that we at Relationship Lifeline have set up is to help the family with funeral expenses as well as help Barbara for the next few months. Unfortunately, because of his cancer, Leonard did not have life insurance, and his teacher’s pension is not transferable to Barbara, so these funds will help provide her with some time to work out other financial support as she grieves the loss of her beloved husband, companion and friend.
