Leanna's Labyrinth Memorial
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
On September 27, 2014 we marked another year since Leanna Struzziery left this world in 2012. In celebration and remembrance of Leanna, a scholarship and a memorial at the University of California at Santa Barbara are to be dedicated in her honor. As many of you know the labyrinth was an important symbol for Leanna. In her own words, “I see the path of the labyrinth as representing my life’s path; full of unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes it seems like I’m lost, but I only have one life’s path and it leads to the center.” Leanna enjoyed sharing the meditative and healing powers of the labyrinth and taught many patients, survivors and non-patients how to use the labyrinth to “calm and focus the mind.”
In 2011 UCSB constructed a labyrinth with the “goal of providing a place and a process for finding the serenity and balance that comes from the interaction of the mind, body and spirit with nature.” The labyrinth overlooks the Pacific from the bluffs above Lagoon Island. The symbology, mission, and location of this labyrinth all reflect powerful elements of Leanna’s life, making it the perfect place to honor her memory. UCSB has agreed to dedicate a plaque memorializing Leanna on a large stone bench which rests between the labyrinth and the bluff’s edge.
Although Leanna never requested a physical memorial, because of her gratitude for the scholarship funds that allowed her to go to college and graduate school, she did request that a memorial scholarship fund be established in her honor. To honor her wish a scholarship is being established through UCSB.
To accomplish both the memorial and scholarship, we need to raise $5,500. We are requesting contributions from friends and loved-ones to achieve this goal. If you are able, please provide your contributions by October 31st .
