HOPE for Leanna Benjamin

My friend Leanna has been living with ME for the entirety of her adult life and all the time I have known her (since our 20s).

Despite living with crippling fatigue and pain, she has fought on to express her creativity, her activism for people living with disability. She’s constantly tackling adversity and fighting challenges at almost every corner especially during these times of benefit reform under our previous government.

The nature of Leanna’s disability means that she doesn’t always have the fight and needs others to pick it up for her when the going gets tough.

Now is such a time, just this week she is battling her housing association for an emergency path, trying to get support with heating costs after finding out she’s no longer eligible even though she’s on a low income, she’s just discovered her electric bed is broken and on Monday she has another meeting with social services in the hope she can convince them to keep her existing care package.

‘Hope’ her power wheelchair is over 7years old and needs replacing asap. Leanna can’t afford to do it herself. Ideally Leanna needs a folding powerchair making it easier to use Taxis and allow her friends to take her out to places without having to push her in her manual chair. It would be great if we could ease that worry and burden, penny by penny through a go fund me.

My HOPE is to raise as much as possible so my talented friend can keep her independence and can enjoy her life as a writer, performer and human being, without the worry of funding the aids and adaptations she relies on to do the things we often take for granted.

Together we can make a huge difference in Leanna’s life, we can give her Hope!
