I won’t go into a lot of details here, but please know it’s been quite a rough time emotionally and physically, particularly for him and also the three of us as a family.

My husband's name is Leandro Artigala, he is an architect, photographer, and avid surfer. In August 2021 he was having neck and upper back pain. One month later, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Since then he has been receiving ongoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

For the past 7 months, he’s been living in the darkness, struggling with this sudden horrible news. Literally feels like his life has been put on hold, that someone took it away. Every day he tries quite hard to focus on the light, and every day he is brought back into the darkness with taunting questions: How long will this last? What are the consequences? What will be the final outcome? How will I financially support my family?.

Above all he really wants to live, a year ago turned 50 years old, and he doesn’t want to leave this chapter unwritten. There are and he has so many good reasons to stay here, particularly all his people, that along these wonderful years got the chance to meet and encounter with.

Being very grateful for the unconditional support, and the love he received and receives from all his people, who mean the world to him, together with his beloved family and friends all of us are literally his rock.

To navigate these uncharted waters and bridge the financial gap, while he applies for disability with the Social Security office, a process that takes at least 165 days for a decision. So if that goes well and gets approved, he’ll be able to continue, without any interruption, with the chemo treatment needed to sustain him.

As many of you already know, at the moment he is not able to do much, unable to work and provide for our family in the capacity he did just 7 months ago.
