Lean on me - Football fundraiser.
The Lean on Me Foundation has been set up in honour of Jesse Owen. Jesse lost his life in a horrific car accident on the 11th December 2023. His 2 friends lost their lives on the evening in the tragic accident, which have left his family and friends and the wider community devastated.
Jesse, a spirited young boy with an infectious smile, possessed a remarkable ability to touch the hearts of everyone he encountered. He radiated positivity and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on those around him, Weather it was through his genuine empathy, his unwavering optimism, or his innate ability to bring joy to others, Jesse’s presence illuminated the lives of many.
His simple acts of kindness and genuine interest in others created ripple effects of compassion and connection, inspiring those of fortunate enough to know him to live with greater kindness and gratitude. Jesse’s legacy lives on in countless lives he touched, a testament of the profound impact one person can have to the world.
The effect this had on Jesse’s massive circle of friends has been heart-breaking to watch, It immediately became apparent to us as a family that these youngsters need support as much as we do. Where we have been offered counselling and assistance, they have been offered nothing. Imagine losing three of your best friends in one evening.
Experiencing Grief as a young person can be an incredibly challenging and confusing journey. When a friend passes away, the pain can feel overwhelming, leaving a void that seems impossible to fill. Coping with the loss may involve a range of emotions, from profound sadness and disbelief to anger and guilt.
It is common for young people to struggle with understanding the concept of death and grappling with the finality of it. They may also find it difficult to express their feelings or seek support from others, feeling isolated in their grief. However, through time, patience, and support from friends, family, and perhaps counselling, young people can learn to navigate their grief and find ways to honour their friend’s memory while also finding peace within themselves.
It is essential for young people to know that it is okay to grieve and that they are not alone in their journey towards healing. Here is where the Lean on Me foundation comes in. The Lean on Me foundation is a beacon of hope for young people navigating the difficult journey of the grief. Committed to providing support, resources and a compassionate community, the foundation’s goal is to ensure that no young person feels alone in their grief. There is a variety of programmes available, workshops, counselling services the foundation offers.
With the Lean on Me Foundation by their side, young people can find solace, strength, and a sense of community as they journey towards a brighter tomorrow.
