Leah O'Brien's HU Memorial Plaque
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
Roughly 5 days ago we set out with a goal to raise $1,100 in 30 days to pay tribute to our friend the late Leah O’Brien- Hampton University alumna, Ogre Phi Ogre XI, c/o 2003- by having her name inscribed on a plaque and affixed to the seat of a pew in the Hampton University Memorial Church. The cost: $1,000 for the plaque; $100 to cover withdrawal fees.
We made this goal in less than 24 hours entirely through an outpouring of compassion and generosity from Leah’s family and friends, especially those from Hampton University, and the good Samaritans who might’ve known Leah only in passing or simply through this endeavor but chose to give off the merit of her smile, demeanor or from their own reservoir of love. THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts.
And, because kind-hearted people continue to give or have expressed interest in giving but are uncertain about how the surplus will be allocated we’d like to update our goal to include donating two $500 scholarships (one for each of Leah’s daughters) to a scholarship fund that Leah’s family is managing privately on their behalves.
Our new goal would be $2,200. ($1,000 for the plaque; $1000 for two $500-scholarships- one for each of Leah’s daughters; $200 to cover withdrawal fees.)
Great news: with $1,730 (donated) out of $2,200 (new goal) we’re already more than three-quarters of the way there! (That’s essentially one $500 scholarship in the bucket for one daughter already.) Can we get 23 more people to donate $20 (or more) to help us meet this goal?
We don’t want to cut the compassion and momentum surrounding this short. Donations from the heart in any amount are welcome and no donation is in vain as the surplus will go directly toward her daughters’ futures.
Please help us raise $2,200 in order to donate two $500-scholarships in support of a scholarship fund for Leah's daughters? Will you join us in going one last lap for Leah? Just $470 to go! Donate, share, spread the word!
Sincerely,
Leah's HU Friends & Family.
A car accident took Leah from this world in April of 2015. On the coattails of the first anniversary of her death coupled with what would have been her 35th birthday (on June 29th) … sorry for telling your business, Leah :) - we’d like to leave an impression on the University that is as indelible as the fingerprint that Leah has left on our lives, and an impression on the lives of her daughters.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Her
She would say,
"Try to understand today my life on earth is passed,
But here in heaven it starts anew.
When tomorrow starts without me, don't think we are apart.
For every time you think of me, I am right here in your heart."
