Help GySgt Leahey Recover from Traumatic Accident
Donation protected
My name is Michelle Leahey McCoy. On May 4th, my brother, Bryan Leahey, was involved in a horrifying, near-death ATV accident in Delaware. After the courageous efforts of his friends who held his shredded scalp together and rushed him to the local fire station, he was air-lifted to Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.
Bryan shattered 3 vertebrae - 2 in his neck and 1 in his back in addition being scalped, sustained a traumatic brain injury, multiple lacerations, and significant blood loss. The trauma team put 62 staples into his skull and 7 stitches around his right eye. Bryan will spend the next 12+ weeks immobilized in efforts to allow his back and neck to heal to the best of their abilities and hopefully avoid requiring further surgical intervention.

Bryan is a husband (wife Alexa), father of my two nephews, McCrae (10) and Deglan (5), a 13 year USMC veteran (Co. A(-), 4th AABn, 4th MARDIV) with 2 tours (Djibouti ‘05, Iraq ‘08) and 17 tours as a Blackwater contractor in every theater. Bryan operates the Orangetheory Fitness, Dover, member of the Chamber of Commerce, big supporter of local Police and First Responder communities, assistant coach for Kent Oil & Propane’s Camden Wyoming Little League team, brother to Jack Matthews and me, and my best friend.
At this point, it remains uncertain as to what insurance will cover. Bryan has a long road ahead of him and this accident will forever change our family. I am fundraising to support my brother, sister-in-law, and nephews as they enter into a period of uncertainty and try to maintain some semblance of normalcy.
Funds will be used for things such as:
- Medical costs including the helicopter med-evac, reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, medications, adaptive service devices, hospital care, home health care
- Normal home/life expenses while Bryan and Lexie remain out of work
- And future associated expenses
I thank all of you in advance, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting my brother. I will update on Bryan’s progress.
God Bless,
Michelle
Bryan, Lexie, and the boys.

5/11/21 update on Bryan-
They will be reassessing the damage to his skull/brain and removing the drainage tube from his head (hopefully). Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes, Bryan, Lexie, and my whole family are forever grateful! We are so overwhelmed by the support we are receiving from friends and family. The entire community is so amazing! We will never forget the impact that you have all had on Bryan’s recovery. He has a long way to go but we are very optimistic.
