Help support Leah to be able to walk again!

Hi, my name is Kristiana and I am a friend and former classmate of Leah Shapiro. We were planning on doing the Mammoth Hike together in February, when she told me that she was in a very serious accident and was hit by a car going 30 mph while she was training for it! So I thought it would be great to help organize this for her since she will be going through her savings, and the recovery will be long and lengthy. This will give her a little peace of mind and let her know that people care and she is supported. Anything that you can contribute would be appreciated!

Here is what she wrote:

"This past Wednesday November 22 while crossing the street in a crosswalk, I was struck by a car and seriously injured. I am alive, will walk again one day and suffered no major brain injury. That said I have injuries that will keep me in a bed or wheelchair for months to come. My R humurs was broken nearly clean away but they were ultimately able to save my arm and my joint. My R tibial plateau was fractured and relpaired yesterday. I will not be able to move or bear weight on these joints for about 3 months. In addition to this I broke my L patella and must wear an immobilizer for 6-8 weeks. I have neck fractures, thoracic compression fractures and a sternum fracture all of which require long-term bracing. I haven't even begun to recognize the impact this will have of my life. That said I am able to type all of this despite it being of great difficulty. The plan is for my to go to a Skilled nursing facility for a period of time to gain enough strength and healing before going to an acute rehabilitation center to learn to walk again. My pain and my grief are enormous but also is my gratitude. I will not be able to respond to most people so please reach out to my friends and family you know if you want information or eventually to visit me. I will need all the support I can get."
