The last couple of months one of my close friends, Leah Margaret Galey, received the scary news that she had breast cancer and had to get a mastectomy. Her life has become a whirlwind of doctor appointments, fear of her own mortality, tears, and the realization that she was going to have to get a mastectomy in her 30's.
On October 27th she bravely underwent a mastectomy and faced this head on, with dignity and humor.
While working on healing she hasn't been ble to work. This has created a huge financial strain, especially since she currently lives in New York, where everything is outrageously expensive. I have been talking to her throughout this trying time and listening to her freaking about the fact that bills are crazy and that she can't work and is on unpaid leave.
Luckily she will not need to undergo chemotherapy or radiation. She does, however, still have two important upcoming surgeries that will not only add to the list of medical bills but will also result in additional lost income.
It kills me that while my main concern right now is buying Christmas gifts and traveling that someone I care about is wondering if she is going to able to afford her medical bills or living expenses. So, I am trying to help, the only way I can think of. That is by reaching out to those that know and love her and/or anyone out there that is can help out a wonderful person, through her time of need. The money will be used to pay toward medical deductible and other uncovered medical expenses. Please share this to spread the word- Any bit helps. - Thank you, Nelson
