Fighting Against MS - Brent Kirkhart
Donation protected
***Update***
We want to thank everyone so much for the quick donations to get Brent and his family through this difficult week but your generosity thus far has helped so much!!
For the first time in nearly a month Brent was able to transfer from his wheelchair into a recliner! He has worked using a seated elliptical (arms and legs combined) without any assistance and was able to come to the house for a few hours! The swelling in his legs is way down, and he has a lot more energy. He will be continuing physical therapy (actually increasing in the days to come) for the next 60 days, so I'm sure we will see more improvements. Your continued support is appreciated as this will be a long process and still a lot of fight to go! Love you all, thank you so much!

BRENT’S STORY
This is the story of my Uncle Brent and his fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - a father, husband, brother, grandpa, son, uncle, deacon, godfather, and so much more!
Brent was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in January of 1997, where at the young age of 37, he had yet to understand what lied ahead.
He immediately began treatment receiving daily shots, that my Aunt Jan had to administer herself. If you know Aunt Jan, she can be quite squeamish : ) ...but she knew how important this and the role she would play in helping Uncle Brent!
2011 dealt a significant blow in his fight against MS as he was necessitated to his wheelchair full time. I didn't understand the disease myself just yet, but I still remember the first time I saw him in his wheelchair. He had the most positive and goofy demeanor about it all and was just smiling away...he was showing us all that this wouldn't change his faith in who he was.
Less than a year later, in 2012, after struggling to keep up with paying for the injections and medicine, the treatments stopped helping at all.
Shortly after this, he transitioned to disability as every day became a fight. Over the last few years, the disease has moved forward with a vengeance. Simple things such as getting dressed and cutting up food, to daily activities that we all take for granted.
Move forward to now, and Uncle Brent has had to sleep in his chair for three weeks at a time because he can no longer lift himself in and out of bed. His leg spasms cause him extreme pain and cramps that further make things unbearable.
