The Challenge
“Everesting” is a challenge of endurance. It involves riding up (and down) the same hill over and over, until you have climbed to the same altitude as Mount Everest – 8,848m.
We would love to be able to do it together for real, but due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we will be attempting a “Virtual Everesting”.
In a Virtual Everesting (vEveresting) the same rules apply, but you complete the event using a “virtual” hill in the online cycling simulation game “Zwift”, riding on a smart bicycle trainer that simulates the gradient and power required to ride up the hill.

We will be riding up “Alpe du Zwift” - a replica of the famous Alp D’Huez climb used in the Tour De France. To complete the challenge, we will have to ride up it 8 and a half times.
This is a really tough challenge!

The challenge will start at 0600 AEST on Saturday 12th September. It is expected to take 11-14 hours.
Tom will be completing the challenge as a community event in the centre of Bungendore in The Village Square – if you can make it, please come along and give some moral support. You can also have a go too! Local cycling shop ...bspoke will provide a second bike, where you can come and test your endurance riding up the Alpe alongside Tom.

Adam is under strict lockdown in Melbourne. He will be riding at home, but you’ll be able to follow him via webcam, and in-game on Zwift.
The Charities
Money raised in relation to this event will be split 50:50 between two palliative care charities – one here in Bungendore, and one back in our native Yorkshire, UK.
(1) The Anne Lim Memorial Fund provides financial support to local residents of the Bungendore region who are suffering from a terminal illness to allow them to access medications and other resources that might otherwise be financially out of reach.
(2) Dove House Hospice provides end of life care and other palliative care services to residents of Kingston upon Hull and the surrounding region. Dove House holds a special place in our hearts as it is where Joan Leach, our grandmother passed away in 2019.
