In 1997, we opened the doors of Le Fournil in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood. Originally from Nantes, I began my apprenticeship at the young age of fourteen. I then traveled the world, working as a baker in Nantes, Paris, Canada, Mexico, Santo Domingo, the Bahamas, New York, and finally in Seattle. This life-long love affair with baked goods inspired me to share my passion with Seattle. In France, picking up a baguette is an essential daily errand, so I decided to create a place people could easily come for freshly baked bread and beautiful pastries on a daily basis. Today, I continue to knead and bake in my own Eastlake family shop.
As you can possibly imagine this year has been a rough one for small businesses, our bakery has suffered a lot as well. We lost 90% of our catering business, and indoor dining has hurt our retail pretty hard.
As 2020 comes to an end our financial situation puts us at the edge of closing down for good. We are asking for the community generosity and help as we don't know what to do anymore. Most important for us is not only saving the work of a lifetime , it is also about saving 9 jobs . Most of my employees have been with the business for more than 15 years. Thanks to their commitment and loyalty, we managed to serve our community!
Your support is most appreciated by all of us at Le Fournil!
