On January 27th, 2019, Larry Neal Dickens passed away after an almost 2 year fight with cancer.
Larry left behind a family consisting of his Wife (Dana Dickens), an adult daughter and son (Samantha Dickens and Christopher Dickens), a brother (Carlton Dickens). He also was loved by a large group of cousins, aunts,uncles, and many, many friends.
Larry was a Vietnam Veteran in the US Navy and was proud to have served his country. He was also a retired Metro Police Officer in Nashville Tennessee and had spent the last 20 years as a drug and alcohol counselor in helping others. He dedicated his life to helping people in the Nashville area both as an officer and as a counselor.
Larry was born in Lebanon Tennessee, his family moved to Old Hickory Tennessee when he was a very young man. He loved the 'village' and moved back close to that location as an adult. He had so many fond memories of growing up in middle Tennessee and loved to tell stories about both his life and provide historical information about the area.
Unfortunately, due to Larry's cancer treatment, the spreading of cancer thru his body, he was forced to stop working. This was due to many factors and became a medical necessity. However, when he retired, he lost all access to the work based life insurance that he obtained through his work. Upon Larry's passing, this left his family in considerable financial hardship due to medical bills, legal bills, financial obligations, and meeting his final wishes.
We’re asking for any help with his memorial expenses, with the overwhelming expenses (medical and other), with the rest being donated to the American Cancer Society and the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids in Larry's name. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to these causes.
