Roxbury Historic Signage Plan
Donation protected

As a member of the Roxbury Historic Preservation Commission (RHPC) in the lovely hamlet of Roxbury, NY, I am raising funds for Phase II of the Roxbury Historic Interpretive Signage Plan. The Plan calls for installing 12 to 15 or more interpretive signs at historic buildings and sites in Roxbury, NY to encourage the appreciation for and preservation of historic sites in the community.
To date we have raised and spent $10,000 for Phase I of the project from two donors ($5,000 from Kingdon Gould the great grandson of Jay Gould who was born and raised in Roxbury and $5,000 from the O'Connor Foundation). Phase I is complete with 5 signs installed.
As of February 2018 we have another $7500 pledged from the Gould family (which needs to be matched) and $4,000 from Delaware County Tourism. Funds will be used to collect images, research and design the signs and have them crafted and installed in the Historic District of Roxbury which is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Since being appointed to the Roxbury Historic Preservation Commission I have become more attuned to the history and historic architecture of Roxbury and see the economic development potential in promoting it and creating physical markers for a self guided walking tour along Main Street.
Your contribution will make a significant difference in implementing this plan which is intended to help highlight Roxbury's history and encourage heritage tourism in the hamlet and in the larger area of the Northern Catskills.
