LCD David M. Campbell Memorial Fund

Donation protected

Our dear brother and friend, LCD David M. Campbell passed away on December 27, 2013 after a long and difficult illness. Since then we have been trying to find a way to honor and memorialize Dave in a way that we know he would love and appreciate and we believe we have found it. With your help we can donate, in Dave's memory, to 4 different organizations that had a direct affect on Dave and what he was a big supporter of...

The 1st being his old Alma Mata, the United States Naval Academy.

With your generous donations, we can have a seat in the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium named after Dave through the USNAA Stadium Take-A-Seat Program, or a seat in the USNAA Alumni Hall, through the USNAA Alumni Hall Honor Chair Program. Through these programs, you can help future young men and women with their dreams to attend the USNA and give a lasting memorial for Dave.

Any money that is raised above what would go towards the seat naming would be donated to the NYPD Health Services, The Special Olympics and DonateLife.net in his memory.

Dave loved his time spent at United States Naval Academy; he loved taking his family and friends to the campus, whether it had been Homecoming Weekend or just a visit to the grounds. He was very proud of his many accomplishments (such as achieving Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow with the Boy Scouts of America), that led to his appointment to the USNA and his time spent in its hallowed halls. He would shared his love of the USNA enthusiastically with all who knew him. He was never prouder than showing people "his" United States Naval Academy, so what better way than to have a seat in either the Alumni Hall or the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium named in his honor, or maybe both. GO NAVY!

Dave also loved “the job”. He breathed, ate, slept, and lived “the job”. His 26 years spent as a member of New York's Finest were filled with commendations and honors. He worked his way up the ladder and became a Lieutenant Commander of Detectives. He served as Squad Commander for the NYPD FBI Task Force, a Commander in the Joint Terrorist Task Force and in Brooklyn South, Staten Island and Manhattan North Narcotics. His work in the NYPD led to him being a graduate of the 194th Session of the prestigious FBI National Academy.
His NYPD/Law Enforcement family was just as important to him as his blood family and he would do anything for them. If you were to ask any of his fellow brothers or sisters in Blue, they would agree that Dave always gave of himself to the NYPD. When he needed blood and, more so, platelets, it was the NYPD Health Services that was there for him, (see Dave, always had to be unique even with his blood type, classic Dave!) what better way to say thank you than to donate to this most worthy cause.

Dave was also a huge supporter of the Special Olympics. His brother Johnny was born with Down Syndrome. Johnny was a Special Olympic Athlete and through the Special Olympics, Johnny was able to really shine. Dave's sister, Alice, has been doing the Special Olympics Polar Plunge for several years now and has dedicated her "plunges" not only to their Johnny, but to Dave as well. See, it was the evening of her Plunge, in 2013, that the family received word that an organ donor was found. What better way to pay tribute to Dave and his support of the Special Olympics, then to donate to this great organization on his behalf.

And we know, if Dave were here, he would want to recognize Donate Life America. Through the ultimate gift, an organ donation , Dave was able to spend more time with us. He would be the first one to advocate how important it is to be an organ donor and to motivate people to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.

Dave was huge supporter of all branches of the military and a true American Patriot. He was was a great guy whose mere presence commanded a room. He was an intellect and a goofball. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a godfather, a husband, a cop, a boss, a commander, a leader, a protector... he was so many things to so many people, but he truly was a friend to all. He would go above and beyond for those he cared about or even for those he didn't know, it was just his nature. Please help us honor and memorialize Dave in what can only be described as True Dave Fashion, "A big, flamboyant showing combined with a selfless act of kindness"- a plaque with his name and donations to help those who helped him and who he suported.

In most of our capacities, we can do only small things out of great love. What we, his family and friends, are really trying to do is show that love for him, to help others, to alleviate the feeling of loneliness and disconnection someone may feel as they are going through one of the most trying times in their lives. We are responding to God’s invitation… to join the beautiful cycle of loving and being loved. It’s not about the gift or memorial. It’s about what it represents and to whom it honors. It’s about love, hope, strength and compassion. It is about learning to give and receive gracefully.
“When givers give they remember… I am needed. I am powerful to do something. I am capable of loving my neighbors. And when receivers receive they remember… I am loved. I am cared for. I am not alone. I have not been forgotten.” Dave knew both sides, he was a giver and a receiver, let’s bring out the Dave in all of us and make this a reality.

Thank you.
