Nathaly here, and my dad is the beneficiary of this fundraiser.
My dad has battled a rare kind of cancer that has primarily affected his liver and pancreas for well over 10 years, as our family and friends are aware.
Without going much into detail, in late May 2022, we received the news that my dad's cancer had become more aggressive and had spread to other areas of his body. From May to August, my dad underwent an aggressive course of radiation therapy. In September, my dad's health took a downward turn and his radiation treatment ended. He also spent two months in the hospital dealing with liver failure brought on by the tumor in his liver. He developed ascites (the buildup of fluid in the belly, often due to severe liver disease) and required frequent paracentesis (abdominal taps) to drain the fluid from his abdomen. Toward the end of November, he began a course of chemotherapy, but it wreaked havoc on his immune system and caused many neurological problems. After a brief stay in hospice, the Lord answered our prayers, and my dad showed signs of improvement, so we were allowed to take him home. December was the worst month. He underwent surgery to insert a drainage tube to help him manage his ascites at home. Late in January, the doctors finally told us that the best thing to do was to focus on the quality of life, not quantity. It's been difficult, to say the least, but he is at peace and is surrounded by love.
The saddest thing is that my dad is fully aware of what is taking place and has voiced his worry about the medical costs and daily expenses. Three weeks ago, he requested that my mother return to work so as not to burden us. But that's the kind of person my dad is—always worried about everyone else first. Our family is already going through a really difficult time, my mom especially. She shouldn't have to stress about anything other than staying by my dad's side until God takes him home.
So, friends and family, the goal is to help so that medical bills and everyday expenses are a little less difficult during this time.
Please donate and share; any little bit helps!
