Hey everyone, I'm James Layno aka LaynoProd, an eighteen-year-old freshman at USC Thornton School of Music, majoring in Music Industry. I decided to go to USC because I want to become a professional rap music producer. The thing I love to do the most is make beats and rap over 'em.
I'm raising money for my college tuition for the Fall 2015 semester. I'm behind my payments by about $2000. Because my payments are past due, I'm restricted by the university to register for classes in the Spring 2016 semester. I can't register for classes until I pay off the $2000 by January 8th, 2016. If I decide to pay it off after January 8th, 2016, it'll cost more than $2000 to register for classes due to late fees.
With government financial aid and school grants, my $67,000 tuition for the 2015-2016 school year was reduced to $14000. I also took government loans which reduced it again to $8000, so that's $4000 per semester. I was on a payment plan that divided the $4000 semester into five monthly installments of $800, which was still hard for me to pay. I only get about $200 from my work-study job, in which I use half to contribute to my tuition payment. My dad is only able to contribute $300 every month from his disability money. My working mom struggles to contribute the remaining $400 because she's in debt and behind her other bills. So far, my family and I payed off August and September's payments, and half of October's payment. I'm left with October's payment of $400, November's payment of $800, and December's payment of $800, which totals to $2000 for this Fall 2015 semester.
Even though I go to USC, a very expensive and prestigious school, my family and I still struggle to pay the tuition. Because we're not rich, I make use of my time at USC and really value my education. I'm writing this right before finals week, and so far my grades are A's and B's. I learned so much from my music industry, pop forum, and music technology classes, and I'm currently applying those things I learned to the music I create and the career I'm pursuing. Many might question why I decided to go to USC knowing that it's an expensive college. My answer is that I cannot find a school with a better music program, better geographical environment, and a better college atmosphere in which I met irreplacable people.
This campaign means so much to me, and I thank God for getting me here in the first place. To thank you guys, I'm giving you my new track called "Rodeo Drive" in exchange for a donation of at least $10. I'll also give the instrumental version of the track if you donate at least $20. I've been working on this track since October, and now it's finally done. I think this is the best track I've made so far in terms of sound quality and song content. "Rodeo Drive" is produced by LaynoProd and mastered and written by James Layno. The track was also mixed by me (James Layno) and my great friend, Tom Carpenter, whom I gotta thank a lot for hooking up the studio, mixing my vocals, and making me sound crisp. I also gotta thank my roommate and great friend Jet Kwok and my great friend Devan Welsh for giving me tips in my creative process. Special thanks to my great friend Bryan Chung for the Rodeo Drive photography and special thanks to my great friend Ivan Blanco for the Rodeo Drive cover art design. My friends and family whom I did not mention, you know who you are, thanks for the constant love and support!
