Layni's Volunteer Trip

Friends and Family!

As I begin to embark on a new adventure in my life, I am asking you to keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I set off to Thailand.

On January 18th I will begin volunteering in a rural village in the Chiang Rai Province. I will be teaching english and engaging in the local cultures of the people. During this time, it is necessary that I provide school supplies and necessities for my students. This is where I need your help the most. I will need supply not only for my classroom, but also supply for my students to use, in order for them to grow academically in the setting provided.  Most of the time, these children learn in an environment very different from the luxurious setting we are used to in The United States; there isn't air conditioning, there aren't bathrooms, sometimes there aren't even chairs or desks... On top of this, school supplies are very limited, if any. My goal is to raise enough money to ship these school supplies and necessities (hand wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues, etc..) so they will be there when I arrive. We take for granted the lifestyle that we have here in America, and it's hard to fathom anything different. While in Thailand, I will be living off of the bare minimum (i.e, sleeping bag, no running water, no bathroom, etc..). I look forward to growing as an indiviudal through this experience, but above all, I look forward to helping the children grow and providing an atmosphere similar to the educational setting we enjoy here in The United States.

My mom has always taught me that giving back is the best way to receive, for what goes around comes around and life is all about giving, so I truly hope I can make a difference through this experience. With all of that said, if you aren't able to make a monetary donation, I ask you to please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, as that means just as much as any donation!!!!  Anything helps, and everything counts!
