Layla Alikhani's World Challenge

Donation protected
My name is Layla Alikhani. In 2009, aged 8, I went on a family holiday to Costa Rica and to this day, it's been one of my most memorable holidays. When I learned that I could have the opportunity to return with my school, this upcoming summer, I immediately signed up. However, this is not your average school trip! In order for us to go on this incredible experience, organised by an amazing foundation called "World Challenge", each student must raise enough money to cover; roundtrip flights, all accommodation, all ground transportation, 3 meals a day, hiking equipment and various activities. Once I have raised the money, I am then responsible for planning and booking my itinerary.

For the fun part...Costa Rica has 800 miles of coastline, between the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. With my team, I will climb the impressive volcano of Cerro Ena (3,126m).  This alone is real challenge for me! But from the summit, I will be rewarded with views of the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.  We will visit Ostional Turtle Reserve on the Nicoya Peninsula. One of Costa Rica’s most important turtle nesting sites, protecting millions that nest here every year. We will be responsible for cleaning debris from the beaches and assisting with patrols to protect the sea turtles from poachers and learning about the life of the precious sea turtle.

For me, the biggest privilege and the part of the trip that I'm most looking forward to, is being able to help out in rural communities and work with local people. We will be living alongside local people for 2 weeks to make meaningful contributions to the needs of their community. We would be teaching, playing sports, reading and playing games with the children of the community. Alongside all of this we will get the oppurtunity to build part of a brand new school and maintain the existing buildings.

To further add to the challenge, as I am very well known for being such a keen athlete, I have also completed a 7K assault course obstacle run which took place on the 4th March.

I have never done anything like this in my life, but I'm not one to shy away from a challenge and with your help and any donation you may be able to spare, I would really be so grateful as it would afford me the trip of a lifetime, gaining invaluable experience.

With great thanks,
Layla
