Hi, my name is Brianna and I am fundraising for my daughter Layla. We brought Layla to the ER on 10/28/21 after numerous trips to the pediatrician. We would have never expected to learn what we were in store for, suddenly our world was turned upside down. On Nov 3rd, 2021 Layla was diagnosed with a rare liver disease, Biliary Atresia. She underwent an extensive Kasai procedure at 2.5 months old with hopes to give her liver more time. Unfortunately, Layla's condition was caught too late and her disease was already progressive. Since diagnosis and surgery, Layla has been in and out of the hospital for numerous tests and treatments. She has been to several doctors appointments here and in Boston. She is on several medications and has required a feeding tube to provide nourishment since the liver disease has affected her ability to gain weight. Due to the progression of her disease, doctors have decided a transplant is the best solution for Layla's future.

 

For those who do not know, there is no cure for Biliary Atresia. It occurs in approximately 1 in 10,000 to 15,000 births in the United States. Surgery must be performed to remove the obstruction and allow bile to flow into the bile ducts and small intestine, known as Kasai hepatoportoenterostomy. In many cases, liver transplantation may become the necessary treatment.

As of now, Layla's potential liver donor will be her father who is a blood type match. Due to her father being her donor, this will leave both him and I out of work for an extended period of time. 

 

Although we will be having a fundraiser for Layla, I have set up a gofundme for anyone who cannot attend or would personally like to make money donation.
