Laying Cody to rest

Donation protected
Hello all! I want to give everyone a little back story on my nephew Cody, and why these funds are necessary. A few short weeks before Cody’s 3rd Birthday he suffered a near drowning. Up until this point my mother, Marybeth, played a huge role in Cody’s life, she was not a biological grandparent but she was his nanny and loved him just as much as any grandparent would love their grandchild. On September 10, 2002, a 911 called was placed. When the EMS arrived Cody had no pulse and was not breathing. CPR was initiated and they got a pulse. Cody was life flighted to The PICU at HMC. The next few days were crucial as he was placed on a ventilator. He was given 3 days on the ventilator, if he could not breathe on his own decisions had to be made. On the 3rd day he was breathing on his own. Cody was released from the hospital in October and placed in Specialized Medical foster care for approximately a year. During this time my mother spent countless hours finding what services she would be eligible for and did many medical trainings to be able to bring Cody home with her. December 2004 he was brought home. The next year my mom spent attending court hearings, trainings, and many phases of the foster/adoption process. September 2005, adoption was finalized.

Over the last several years Cody was in and out of the hospital for things like Pneumonia, ARDs, and being septic for UTI’s. He fought every single time and when we didn’t think he was going to make it he would prove us wrong! About 4 weeks ago he was treated for Pneumonia and it was only about 5 days after he started to show symptoms again leading Doctors to believe there wasn’t much more they could do for him from here on out because he was antibiotic resistant. Wednesday of last week Cody was sent to the Gatehouse on comfort measures and gained his wings on Thursday @ approximately 1415.

Cody’s diagnosis of a anoxic brain injury left him ineligible for a life insurance policy which is why I decided to reach out to anyone that may know my family and want to contribute.

Once again, I appreciate everyone who has reached out to us during this time. We ask for continued prayers as this next week will be difficult for our family!
