Disability Lawyer Retainer for Ian
Donation protected
My name is Kate, I'm a mom of three kids, and a skills trainer in a Special Education Day School. My oldest is Ian, then middle child is Sophie, and our youngest is Claire.
I am seeking fundraising to hire an attorney because Ian is receiving negligent and unjustified treatment as a special education student, which violates his rights.
Ian is 6.
Ian has special needs, and has a medical diagnosis of ADHD, Anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from years of abuse at the hand of his biological father.
He is in first grade, and receives Special Education services through our local school district.
At the beginning of this school year, Ian's behaviors at school began to intensify, and he was being sent to the principal's office almost daily.
Suddenly, we were seeing severe aggression, emotionally disregulation, and even suicidal ideation. As his advocate, I requested an IEP meeting to revamp his goals, and discuss placement, because I felt these behaviors were suggesting that he needs more supportive services.
Ian was denied alternative placement because the school staff felt they could provide services, when I did not, but I requested we meet again for placement in 6 weeks, after we'd been able to collect more academic and behavior data.
In that time, Ian has been suspended, I was forced to pick him up on a separate occasion (not suspended) due to their inability to support his needs, and they wrongfully restrained him, (and incorrectly restrained him as well).
I have sought the services of Wiscarson Law in Portland, and they believe we have a strong case and want to get started immediately. Their retainer plus fees is 2100, and then any added charges for service are 190$ an hour.
I have a small amount for the retainer but we need it upfront in order to hire and start working to get Ian the advocacy and services he needs. As a skills trainer, I make just enough money to get by. We are considered low income and this is a huge hardship.
