Lawrence's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Lawrence, a native New Yorker, and currently the Co-Director of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, is recognized as one of the top developmental tennis coaches in the USA. He was named the USTA Eastern Section Tennis Professional of the Year in 2013 and the USTA Long Island Region Tennis Professional of the Year in 2006. Lawrence has trained more ranked juniors than anyone in the history of the USTA Eastern Section. To convey Lawrence’s talent as a coach, his students have won, among other titles and honors, a Junior Wimbledon title, numerous USTA National Junior Championships, and more than 20 USTA Eastern Year-End Sportsmanship Awards, and have received countless full tennis scholarships to play at Top Division I colleges and universities. As many accolades as Lawrence and his students have received, no single accomplishment can truly reflect the lifelong love and passion Lawrence has for tennis and his total commitment to helping his students develop their potential and achieve their dreams.
In addition to being an exceptional coach, Lawrence is also a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as well as a loyal friend. He has changed the lives of so many people who have been fortunate enough to know him. No matter the circumstance, Lawrence would always go the extra mile to help his family, friends and students and for that he is tremendously loved and adored.
On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Lawrence suffered a devastating fall that caused numerous injuries, including life-threatening skull fractures and related brain trauma. Medical and rehab costs are expected to climb as he battles these injuries and fights to get back on-court in the future. We ask those who love Lawrence from the Sportime and other tennis communities to support his fight back to the tennis court and to help his friends and family provide whatever he may need in that fight. All funds raised will go to Lawrence’s wife, Slavka, in order to pay for Lawrence’s medical and rehabilitation expenses.
